In
september 2007, three of our members (Zsófia Poros, Gabriella Kiss,
Ágnes Takács) participated in the first international meeting of
the SEG student chapters in Freiberg (Saxony, Germany). During the
week, we got a general idea of the geology of the area. We visited many
underground and open pit mines, for example:
- Nochten opencast lignite mine
- Boxberg thermal power plant
- Boulder Park Nochten (a recultivated old opencast mine)
- Wismuth GmbH famous mineral collection
- Schneckenstein „topaz-rock”
- Schneckenstein underground mine (Sn-U deposit)
- Morshleben Repository for Radioactive Wastes (old salt mine)
- Schöningen open pit lignite mine
- Poehle underground mine (Sn-W-U deposit)
At the final event of
the meeting, every participant presented us their own chapters (activities,
field trips etc). After the presentations the participants decided, that
the next meeting will be in Budapest (Hungary) 2009, in the
organisation of our chapter.
