4 November, 2011
One day field trip to the Mecsek Mts. Together with the members of the AAPG Eötvös Student Chapter we visited the geologists of the Wildhorse Energy Ltd in Pécs (SW-Hungary). After a general introduction about the underground coal gasification (UCG) projects in Hungary, we studied the drill cores and visited the drilling. During that day we had a chance to learn about the exploration strategy of the coal beds suitable for UCG .

We're thankful for the support of Wildhorse Energy Ltd!

Field trips in 2005:

April 8-9, 2005
From 8 to 9 April 20 SC members visited some of the hydrothermally altered and/or veined areas of the Tokaj Mountains, Hungary. The trip was led by Prof. Ferenc Molnár. Krisztián Szentpéteri, founder and former president of the SC, also accompanied the group and was kind to share his experiences with us, too.
Visited stops on the field:
» Füzérradvány/Korom Hill: Active illite mine. The illite was formed through hydrothermal alteration of Miocene tuffs. Its gold indications makes the area promising such that it was licensed to further exploration.
» Sárospatak/Király Hill: Intensively silicified riolitic rock body. Deeper parts of the alteration zone have significant mineralization which has not been intensely explored yet.
» Óhuta/Mély Valley: Strongly altered margin of the Regéc caldera. We spent the whole day making observations in the area. We distinguished different alteration zones with their characteristics relevant in mineral exploration.

Field trips in 2003:

October 19-22, 2003
The first field trip of the SC in 2003 was organized in the Apuseni Mountains, Rumania. We visited the famous gold quadrangle (Brad-Nagyág-Verespatak-Zalatna). We looked at the exploration area at Verespatak and Nagyág and visited the famous gold museum in Brad. We learned about the geology, hydrothermal processes and mineralization of the area from the excellent geologists of the Rosia Montana Gold Corporation (Gabriel Resources Ltd.).
Detailed report about the field trip here:
1 day: Verespatak
2 day: Brad-Nagyág

November 28-29, 2003
We organized our second field trip in 2003 in the Mátra and Bükk Mountains. On the first day we learned about the volcanism and hydrothermal processes in the Eastern Mátra Mountains. Our guider was Nigel Maund, chief geologist of the St Istvan Gold Corporation, Recsk. On the second day we saw the ophiolitic sequences around Szarvaskõ, with the best expert of the area, Friedrich Koller.

Detailed report about the field trip here:
1 day: Ilona Valley - Lahóca Hill
2 day: Szarvaskõ district

Field trips in 2002:

May 17-19, 2002
We organized the first field trip in 2002 in the Tokaj Mountains. The topics of the field trip were: mineralogie, petrolpogie ore deposits and tertiary volcanism in NE Hungary.
Detailed report about the geology of the Tokaj Mountains and about the field trip

November 8, 2002
On the second field trip in 2002 we went to Kremnica and Banska Stiavnica in the Slovakei. We came to know the Banska Stiavnica volcanic complex, the epithermal and polimetallic vein type ore mineralization. We came to know also the hystory of the mining in the central slowakei volcanic field. Prof. Peter Kodera was our field guider from the Geological Institute of Slowakei (Bratislawa).
